Work Redesign – Why Old Job Descriptions Are No Longer Enough

We’ve all seen the standard, multi-page Job Description that is given to an employee on their first day of work and then, in many cases, archived forever. Traditionally, this document strictly defined a person’s duties. However, today, when company goals and technologies change every month, these static files no longer work.

The answer to this challenge is Work Redesign – a process that involves not only describing the job, but also fundamentally changing the structure of its execution.

Why is Work Redesign necessary?

From static to dynamic: Old job descriptions put a person in a frame. Under Work Redesign, roles become flexible. Instead of standard, outdated files, transparent, automated systems are created. When an employee has his own individual dashboard and ready-made templates, where he enters data and manages the daily process, More autonomy and responsibility emerge.

Focus on the result, not the process: A traditional job description lists “”what”” a person should do. Work Redesign answers the question: “”what value should be created?””. This helps the employee see the big picture of his work.

Minimize routine: Work redesign always involves simplifying processes. If a task is too bureaucratic, it is either automated or completely removed from the team’s agenda.

Results for organizations

Employees who understand the dynamics of their role and have a relevant, tailored workspace (and not just a dry text about duties) are much more motivated. Work Redesign is not just an HR term; it is a strategic step to create a better, more productive and modern work culture.
