How to Make Goals a Reality?
We’ve all had moments when we’ve set big goals but haven’t been able to achieve them. Why is this the case, and how can we change it? The answer is simple – we need a specific action plan, called an “implementation intention.”
An implementation intention is a pre-conceived plan for when and how we’ll act. It’s a simple formula: “When situation X arises, my reaction will be Y.” Studies show that this approach is incredibly effective at achieving goals.
People who have a specific plan – when and where they’ll take this or that action – are much more successful at achieving their goals. Because an implementation intention turns vague ideas into concrete action plans.
Because the process is simple. So to get started, you should follow this formula:
I will do [action], [time], [place]
For example: “I will exercise every morning at 7 am, on the balcony of my house” or “I will read a book every evening at 9 pm, in the living room”.
Another effective form of implementation intention is “habit building”. Instead of linking a new habit only to a time and place, we can attach it to an existing habit:
I will acquire [new habit] after [existing habit]
For example: “I will devote 10 minutes to meditation after drinking coffee” or “I will take a 20-minute walk after returning from work”.
This is not just another self-improvement technique – it is a scientifically proven approach that changes our attitude towards achieving goals. When we use these methods, we create not just a plan, but a whole system that helps us turn our goals into a daily reality.
The main thing to remember is that success does not depend only on what we want – but also on how we plan to achieve it. Without a specific plan, our goals will remain just dreams. But when we use the techniques of implementation intention and habit building, we create a clear path to success.
Start today – choose one goal and transform it into a specific plan. Determine the time, place and circumstances. Connect it to existing habits. And most importantly, start taking action. Because in the end, it is the small, daily steps that bring us closer to our big goals.
Remember – your success depends not on your talent, but on your ability to create and follow a clear plan. And the implementation intention is the tool that will help you on this path”
